Grand Rapids Ride of Silence 2017
The Ride of Silence is a somber annual event honoring cyclists who have been killed in action on the road. The event occurs on the third Wednesday in May around the globe with hundreds of silent processions. Grand Rapids has participated in the Ride of Silence each year since 2005. The Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition organizes and hosts the event. The route winds from Sixth Street Bridge Park to John Ball Park and back again. City police hold traffic to allow the cyclists to stick together throughout the procession. The ride, needless to say, is deeply moving.
