August (Pre-Ride)

Sloth’s initial plans for his August solo bike tour were extensive. The route was to begin in Traverse City and, via Mackinac Island, eventually end in Sault Ste. Marie. However, return transportation did not work out as planned and the weather was to alternate between thundershowers and sunny skies. To complicate matters, Sloth was also just getting over a summer cold which had completely incapacitated him the prior weekend. Knowing that a full trip to the Upper Peninsula likely would not work out, Sloth decided to make it up to Straits State Park and then come back down across the Mackinac Bridge for pick-up.

Given that he had already biked to Traverse City from Grand Rapids, Sloth saved himself several days of travel and drove up to Traverse City State Park to begin his journey.
