The Origin of b4r3 4rm5
Sloth first ran the 5th 3rd River Bank Run in 2009, tackling the 10K race. He received a t-shirt with a screenprinted "name tag" on the front with the words "I am running for..." and then a space to write - perhaps a cause, or a person, or a personal goal. Then it hit him: why not run the race for MS? And, as captain of Team N3kk1d, what better cause than "the right to bare arms"? Thus, our running team was born!
The 5th 3rd River Bank Run
The River Bank Run is scheduled for Saturday, May 8th 2010 and comes in several flavors to suit runners of all calibers. The event features a 5K, 10K, and 25K race as well as a 5K Community Walk. The entry fees for the River Bank Run are very reasonable ($24 to $30, depending on the event). The run has been around for more than 30 years and is incredibly well-organized, with literally thousands upon thousands of participants. The energy surrounding the runners and spectators is palpable. Our job is to harness that energy and use it as a weapon against MS!
Strides Against MS
As a fundraising group, our runners also enroll in the MS Society's Strides Against MS program. In doing so, the b4r3 4rm5 team joins a nation-wide family of runners who compete in events across the United States in an effort to end the devastating effects of Multiple Sclerosis. Locally, Sloth will coordinate the team and provide support and materials needed for fundraising.
Signing up online is the easiest method of getting the ball rolling. Once you register for the run through Active.Com, you can immediately begin raising money for the MS Society by directing potential donors to the team fundraising webpage, or solicit donations using the downloadable materials from the Strides Against MS program. You may also email the team captain to get more details on the event or assistance with the fundraising aspects of the team. Sloth is prepped and ready to hand out awards for his top fundraisers, so get out there and start getting those pledges of support!
The Plan for 2010
Our team goal for our inaugural year is $1,000. We plan on raising the majority of it at our first annual Wii Bowling Tournament, scheduled for Saturday, March 13th. But we still need your help to bring us to the one thousand mark, so be sure to make a donation to your favorite runner today and support our cause!
