Want to learn more about Team N3kk1d? Do you have questions on how you can get involved? We suggest emailing Sloth, our team captain, or emailing Steph, our volunteer coordinator. They can either directly answer any questions you may have or perhaps find the right person at the Michigan Chapter of the National MS Society who can assist you. You can also stay connected with Team N3kk1d on our Facebook page.
You may have noticed our unique team names which contain mixed alpha-numeric characters. This text type is known as "leet" (or "l337"), a screen-based semi-encrypted method of typing which originated within the internet community. Comic strips such as Megatokyo and online web forums have brought the use of leet-esque vernacular into public use.
As for Team N3kk1d: our riders have been known to disregard general cyclist clothing gear such as jerseys while participating in the Bike MS event; if the weather is decent, you may catch them shirtless ("nekkid"). However, this practice usually does not extend to the entire team, and our name is meant to be tongue-in-cheek.
Over the years, several businesses have partnered with Team N3kk1d, providing us with everything from financial support to wearables to corporate pledge matching. At this time, we'd like to tip our hats to the following:
In addition, we'd like to give extra special thanks to one sponsor in particular: Peninsular Technologies. Each year, their dedication to our cause seems to grow. In 2009, they sponsored a Team N3kk1d-affiliated golf team which raised several thousand dollars for the fight against Multiple Sclerosis. In 2011, they matched dollar-for-dollar the total miles we pedaled team-wide in the West Michigan Bike MS event, resulting in a one thousand dollar pledge of support. Thanks a million, Peninsular Technologies... we can't say it enough!
